Above the Horizon
Another straightforward, symmetrical approach to wallpapering. This imaginary planet appears cold and icy, frozen in silence. The model is similar to the full-planet Earth model in my Us image, except that an additional layer for the outer atmosphere glow is rendered over the other layers. Except for the image textures, this image is 100% Blender generated.
I used a spherical Venus map, found at www.solarviews.com, to add roughness to the land surface. This map is authored by NASA/JPL. The other spherical maps are Earth maps owned by NASA. I obtained them from visibleearth.nasa.gov, with the exception of the water mask map, which I obtained from mirrors.arsc.edu/nasa/landmask/. I Photoshopped the colors of the land map to fit the icy mood of the planet.
