This library is intended to be a comprehensive resource for anyone interested in rendering the planets of our solar system in Blender. Hours of designing and rendering have been invested in this library. You'll find still shots of eight planets and five moons, the Blender files used to render them, and links to 38 of the best free planet maps I've been able to find on the web. Three of these maps (the photo-realistic Earth ground map, and the two Earth night ground maps) I edited from NASA maps and uploaded myself; I don't know of any other location where free high-quality maps like these can be obtained.
I applied something of a proper axial tilt to each of the planets. Not all of the planets' features are scientifically accurate, however; for example, I only approximated the scale and proportions of the ring systems of Saturn and Uranus.
You may download the Blender files and use them freely in your own productions, provided you credit Chamberlin Productions. In order to use the Blender files, you must download the maps from the links given. You must provide additional credit for the authors of these maps according to their specifications. To make this job easier, at the bottom of each planet page I have provided what to my knowledge is the required credit information. I believe that all the maps may be used for personal non-commercial purposes (and some for commercial purposes). You may also use the still shots I rendered of these planets in your own productions, provided you credit Chamberlin productions and the authors of the maps.
One final word: if you need to use these planets extensively, I would encourage you to build your own .blend files, using my files as a reference, instead of simply downloading and using my files. You'll get to know Blender better that way. In fact, if you want to build these planets for yourself, you may find my Planet Earth tutorial helpful. If you build your own Blender files, even if they are exact copies of my own files, you need not credit Chamberlin Productions for your renders made with those files.
And hey, if you make some big production based on this library, I'd appreciate it if you'd drop me an e-mail so I can take a look!
Within each planet page, click on the image thumbnails to view the full-size renders. To download all the still shots of the planets, see this link.
